- Title:
- Hikayat Raja Khandak dan Raja Badar
- Scope & Content:
-
In Malay in Jawi script. Hikayat Raja Khandak dan Raja Badar. Also known as Hikayat Raja Handak, a fictitious tale based on the seige of Medinah, telling of the battle between the infidels Raja Khandak and Raja Badar with the Prophet and ‘Ali.
The hand appears to be quite modern. The rubricated words in red appear to have been written with a fine felt-tip pen over pencilled outlines; this implies that the MS was copied from one with the same rubricated words. A peculiarity of this hand is that initial alif is positioned half-way below the line. This MS is said to be translated by Nuruddin ibn ‘Ali in Reman (south Thailand) on 9 Rabiulawal 1224 (Monday 24 April 1809) (NB this date may refer to an earlier MS rather than the present copy).
Colophon [f.32r]: faqir ala Allah ta‘ala Nuruddin ibn ‘Ali terjemahkan risalat itu pada negeri Reman malam a.sy.n.y (Ithnin?) sembilan malam daripada bulan Rabiulawal pada hijrah al-nabi salla Allah ‘alayhi wa-sallam seribu dua ratus dua puluh empat tahun …. ‘the mendicant to God, Nuruddin ibn ‘Ali, translated this text in the state of Reman on Sunday the ninth evening of Rabiulawal in the year of the hijrah of the Prophet, may the peace and blessings of God be upon him, one thousand two hundred and twenty four’.
