Tōkaidō gojūsantsugi manga emaki 東海道五十三次漫画絵巻
- Scope & Content:
- “The fifty-three stages of the Tōkaidō highway in cartoons”. Inspired by the series of 55 woodblock prints by Hiroshige these scrolls contain cartoons by 18 artists of the Tōkyō Mangakai (Tokyo Cartoonists Association) including its founder Okamoto Ippei 岡本一平 (1886-1948). The first scroll contains 28 illustrations of the stages from Nihonbashi 日本橋 to Kakegawa 掛川, the second contains 27 illustrations of the stages from Fukuroi 袋井 to Kyoto
