Chinese poem in 5-character quatrain form by the Tang dynasty poet Wang Bo 王勃 in the calligraphy of the diplomat and bibliophile Sir Ernest Mason Satow (1843-1929). Signed as Seizan 静山.
Text reads: 山川両処晩 花柳一園春 還持千日酔 共作百年人.
Manuscript note on reverse of scroll reads : 最珍 前駐日英国大使アーネスト・サトー氏筆春之詩 學書高斎単山号静山. Undated but between February 1873, when Satow received the artist's name 'Seizan', and January 1884 when he left Japan.
