- Title:
- Pi Lalengliani collection of Chaltlang chief R. D. Leta's materials [1906-1929]
- Scope & Content:
-
Held at Pi Lalengliani's home in Chaltlang, these materials are mainly those of her great-grandfather, R. D. Leta, Chief of Chaltlang, and cluster around themes of judgement, education, government, religion, and everyday life in Aizawl, from 1906 to 1929. This collection's epicentre is clearly the Chaltlang locality (or 'veng') of Aizawl. Most if not all of the documents concern Lalengliani's family history in this region. The documents are conspicuously 'early' by Mizoram standards, clustering from the 1900s to the 1920s. Themes range from local governance and linguistics, to literature, education, and religion. This collection is held in part out of legal interest, as it is seen by the custodian as potential evidence in a property dispute among Lal ('Chief') Leta's descendants. Despite this, there were no access restrictions placed on any of the documents we have copied.
Large collection of early photographs and paper records.
