Notebooks, typescripts and word-processed documents, containing drafts of poetry, translations and prose, by Peter James Dale (b. 1938), poet, translator and critic. Peter Dale began to publish poems and articles of literary criticism in magazines while an undergraduate at St. Peter's College, Oxford. After graduation he taught English at a number of schools, his literary activities being reserved for his leisure time. From 1968 collections of his poems were published in twelve volumes, culminiating in Diffractions (London: Anvil Press Poetry, 2012) which cumulates most of his work and adds some previously uncollected poems. He also has published translations into verse of poems by François Villon, Jules, Dante Alighieri, Tristan Corbière and others. From 1972 to 1996 he was, with William Cookson, editor of the literary magazine Agenda, and has contributed poems, reviews and criticism to a number of other periodicals. The archive, collected by him during his writing career, comprises:

• Note-books and diaries including drafts of his literary and critical work.
• Other drafts and published work as books, cuttings and issues of periodicals.
• Correspondence, both business and personal.
• Press-cuttings.
• Annotated copies of books and periodicals owned by him.
