Fa‘altu fa-lā talum فعلت فلا تلم
Quṭb al-Dīn al-Shīrāzī, Maḥmūd ibn Masʿūd قطب الدين الشيرازي، محمود بن مسعود
- Scope & Content:
-
Supercommentary by Quṭb al-Dīn Maḥmūd ibn Mas‘ūd al-Shīrāzī (قطب الدين محمود بن مسعود الشيرازي; c 1236-1310) on the Tibyān maqāṣid al-Tadhkirah (تبيان مقاصد التذكرة) by Muḥammad ibn ‘Alī ibn Ḥusayn al-Ḥimādhī (محمد بن علي بن حسين الحماذي), which is in turn a commentary on the Kitāb al-tadhkirah fī al-hay’ah (كتاب التذكرة في الهيئة; see British Library, MS Or.11209) a treatise on the astronomical system presented in the Almagest of Ptolemy (Claudius Ptolemaeus; c 90-c 168) by Naṣīr al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Ṭūsī (نصير الدين محمد بن محمد الطوسي; d. 1274). Al-Shīrāzī's text is a scathing critique of al-Ḥimādhī, whom he accuses of plagerising his (al-Shīrāzī's) own commentray on the Kitāb al-tadhkirah, the Kitāb al-tuḥfahal-shāhīyah (كتاب التحفة الشاهية; see British Library, Add. MS 23393).
The title page refers to the text as Kitāb sharḥ TadhkirahQuṭbī (كتاب شرح تذكرة قطبي; f. 1r), and the colophon calls it the Kitāb al-mawsūm Sharḥ al-Tadhkirah (كتاب الموسوم شرح التذكرة; f. 213v, lines 8-9). The text's true title, Fa‘altu fa-lā talum (فعلت فلا تلم), is found in al-Shīrāzī's introduction (f. 14v, line 13).
The copy was completed 14 Jumādá I 826 (25 April 1423) by a copyist who states his name illegibly (see colophon f. 213v).
Diagrams on ff. 28r, 29r, 29v, 42v, 58r, 58v, 65r, 67v, 96r, 103r, 111r, 116r, 158r, 164r, 181v, 184v, 197r and 199r
Contents:
Begins (f. 1v, lines 2-5):
Ends (f. 213, lines 4-7):
The colophon (f. 213, lines 8-20) is written very unclearly. The date and scribe can be seen in lines 14-19.
