Contents: f.2r: prayer in Arabic; ff.3v-303r, 304v-305r: text of the Quran.
From the East Coast of the Malay peninsula, probably Kelantan or Patani.
Text frames are ruled lines of black-thick yellow-black-black-red ink. Verse markers are yellow (and occasionally green) roundels outlined in black. Surah headings are set within rectangular frames, reserved in white against five coloured panels, alternating either green and red, or blue and red. Marginalia: juz' are marked by beautiful ornaments with the words al-juz' reserved in white against a coloured background in a roundel with floral extensions above and below; these markers are found every 10 ff., always situated in the top right corner of the verso of a folio; maqra’ written in red ink in a very small hand; catchwords at the end of every quire. Illuminated pages: six double and one single decorated frames in the ‘East Coast’ style:
f.1v: single monochrome frame in black ink, enclosing one line in Malay: tatkala surat Quran ini pada bulan Syawal, ‘this Qur'an was written in the month of Syawal’.
ff.3v-4r: S. al-Fatihah and beg. of S. al-Baqarah, double frames in red, yellow, green and dark blue.
ff.148v-149r: beg. of S. al-Kahf, double frames in red, yellow, green and dark blue.
ff.222v-223r: beg. of S. Yasin, double frames in red, yellow, green and dark blue.
ff.303v-304r: monochrome black ink frames, enclosing empty text blocks
ff.304v-305r: S. al-Falaq and S. al-Nas, double frames in red, yellow, green and dark blue.

- Folio dimensions: 223 x 165 mm. Italian laid paper, watermarks: moon face in shield (throughout), ‘AG’ [Andrea Galvani] (f.140), i.e. made in Pordenone near Venice; probably dating between 1865-1885; some water staining, but generally in good condition. 15 lines per page; black ink; a very fine neat hand, upright, slightly stretched horizontally. Original dark brown cloth binding, lined with black end-papers (probably Thai paper), with beautifully sewn headbands in red, green & brown.
