- MSS Malay A 2
- Title:
- Syair Perahu
- Scope & Content:
-
Syair perahu, in Malay in rencong (ka-ga-nga or incung) script. This is different from the poem of this title found in Doorenbos, 1933, pp.16-19, but the same text is found in SOAS MS 41394, and about one-quarter of it is in van Hasselt, 1881, pp.11-13. A synoptic romanized text of MSS Malay A 2 and SOAS MS 41394 is in MSS Eur C 214. MSS Malay A 2 seems roughly contemporary with SOAS MS 41394, which is from the Marsden collection.
The nature of a short text (3 pp.) found on the reverse at the other end of the strip of bark could not be ascertained. Perhaps it is an incantation. The intervening pp. on the reverse are blank.
