- LAURENCE MAYES: ‘Dialectica, sive epitome totius Artis Logicae’, dictates on logic delivered by the Rev. Laurence Mayes (b. 1673, d. 1749), professor of philosophy and poetry at the English College at Douai.
- Scope & Content:
- Transcribed by Sir George Jerningham (b. 1680, d. 1774), who has signed the manuscript in several places, with the date 20 August 1698. The manuscript forms a companion volume to Add MS 61916, a second volume of Jerningham’s notes on Mayes’s lectures, transcribed in 1699. It includes several diagrams of logical figures, in red and black, pasted into the volume, and a separate section of tables headed ‘Tabulae Figurarum et Modorum syllogismorum’.
