Undang-undang Aceh
- Scope & Content:
-
Undang-undang Aceh, in Malay in Jawi script. Dated in the colophon (f.18v) 5 Rabiulawal 1290 (3 May 1873) (although Ricklefs & Voorhoeve read the year as 1240 or 1250); the owner (and/or scribe) is Haji Muhammad ibn Abdullah.
It is said that Haji Muhammad anak Bintan (or Banten? b.n.t.n) wrote (menurunkan) this work during the reign of Sultan Jamalul Alam (r.1703-26), in the year AH 1160 (AD 1747), but perhaps this should be AH 1120 (AD 1708) (with the numeral '6' to be read as '2', a not uncommon occurrence in Arabic script).
Sekarang suda lamanya tengah tiga ratus tahun.
On f.18r (probably originally the back cover) are prayers in Arabic and, at the end, a copy of a letter in Malay from Datu' to Datu' Penghulu and Datu' Keempat Suku.
On f.1r is an indecipherable inscription: a.l.m.z al-kalam a.l.m pulau 'amir a.l.n?
