167 ff; variety of white and light blue European laid watermarked papers (eg 3 crescents), in excellent condition, sewn into a single volume; 21.5 x 16 cm; black ink with red rubrics; in a variety of hands; 19 or 21 lines per page.
Many different kinds of European laid paper, mostly of Italian manufacture:
ff.1-33: thin fine bluish paper with chainlines, watermark of lion rampant with crown above, within a tapered frame with top-piece, ‘G B A’, ‘Gio Batista FM’[?]
ff.34-93: thick cream paper, watermark of 3 crescent moons
ff.94-123: thin cream paper, with faint watermark visible, a shield with a diagonal band, and ‘G M’ below
ff.124-144: thin blue paper, watermark on f.130 within a circle the words, in two lines ‘ALL / INGLESE’; on f.131 an anchor with underneath ‘Jos. Em. Raph’; on f.143 ‘Azulay’
ff.145-157: thick cream paper, with faint watermark visible, the letter ‘M’ and in one corner, ‘G A’ with ‘P’ underneath
ff.158-166: thick cream paper, watermark of 3 crescent moons.
Bound with checked cotton fabric, very stained, probably originally with red, dark blue and cream squares. Enclosed within a loose full Islamic binding in brown leather with a flap, lined with paper, with stamped frames, medallions and corner pieces.
