- Scope & Content:
- 48 drawings bound into a volume depicting castes of the Malabar Coast. In most cases a man and woman are shown together holding the implements of their trade. At the end of the album, there is a 'A Supplemental Explanatory Table to the foregoing plates arranged in their numerical order'. First two illustrations are by Stephen Crening; the remainder by a Malabar Coast artist, c. 1840s. Note: a second album of Malabar coast watercolours and titled 'Crening' Album appeared at Hartnoll & Eyre (n.d.) with 44 watercolours and dated 1837.
