Scope & Content:

Full-leather album, measuring 350 x 450 mm, containing 122 prints mounted one to a page (recto only), with captions handwriten in pencil. The numbers next to the captions coincide with Bourne's negative numbers which are reproduced in Bourne and Shepherd published catalogues. The pencilled captions themselves largely follow the descriptions in the catalogues. The album is untitled and the binding simply decorated with a gold leaf border. The prints are displaying signs of deterioration common in albumen prints, with some fading, particularly at the edges, but the mounts are relatively stable and require only cleaning and the removal of small patches of foxing. The photographs cover the broad range of locations visited by Bourne when recording the topography and architecture of India.
