Green half-leather bound album (front cover detached and spine weak) measuring 320x275mm, with prints of various sizes pasted in with contemporary handwritten captions. The album originally belonged to William James Heaviside, Bengal Engineers, and was presented by him to the Addiscombe Club on 5 June 1901. The contents can be broken down into the following categories:

Prints 3-109 Portraits of cadets and staff at the East India Company's military seminary at Addiscombe, 1857-9. The majority, if not all these photographs were taken by Aaron Penley, Professor of Drawing at the College. A number of the portraits are reproduced in Colonel H.M. Vibart's Addiscombe its heroes and men of note (London, 1894), in which Penley is credited with introducing photography to the curriculum (p.212): 'In April, 1855, instruction in photography was introduced, and Mr Penley took this work into his hands...It is to him we are indebted for all the photographs of the College, its staff and cadets, which are extant, and his photographs have rendered it possible to illustrate this book.'
