Views of Portsmouth, Porchester, Bedhampton and Leigh Park. Photographer(s): Thomas Biggs
- Scope & Content:
-
Collection of nine loose, prints mounted on card, with contemporary pencilled captions. The prints, several of which are of fine quality, appear to date from the mid-1850s and show scenes at Portchester Castle, Portsmouth, Bedhampton and Leigh Park. This is probably the set of prints sent in to the East India Company by Biggs as examples of his work. The pencilled captions appear to be in his hand, and the location of the views corroborates the ascription, since Biggs's uncle St John Alder, was Rector of Bedhampton.
