Archaeological antiquities from Afghanistan. Photographer(s): Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
Two loose prints without descriptive captions, accompanied by internal India Office note indicating that they had been given 'to Mr Amery the other day by M. Hackin, whom he knows personally. They apparently represent examples of M. Hackin's 'finds' in Afghanistan'. The prints show a plaque with a head and shoulders portrait of a helmeted man in Greek style, and part of a decorative tiled floor showing women at their ease. These items were apparently found at Bagram in Afghanistan, a major archaeological site identified with the ancient city of Kapisa, destroyed by Cyrus the Great in the 6th century B.C., and later supplanted by Kabul.'
Joseph and Ria J. Hackin were members of the French Archaeological Delegation in Afghanistan in the 1930s and were authors of a number of works on various sites.
