Green quarter-leather album, 365 x 348 mm, containing mounted prints with letterpress descriptions on reverse. The album title is stamped in gold on the spine. The prints were variously published between 1856-58 in Johnson and Henderson's Indian Amateur's Photographic Album and in 1872 in D. H. Fourteen copies of the paper folders in which the prints were sold are bound in at the back of the album The album has now (2008) been rebound and the original wrappers bound as a separate volume. The prints depict topographical, architectural and ethnographical views mainly in and around Bombay but including views from other regions in India.
The Indian Amateur's Photographic Album was published by William Johnson and William Henderson under the patronage of the Bombay Photographic Society (of which Johnson was a founding member and Secretary) and ran for a total of 36 issued between 1856 and 1858.
