The Underwood Travel Library: Stereoscopic Views of Burma. Photographer(s): Ricalton, James A
- Scope & Content:
-
Collection of stereoscopic views contained in a custom-made case in the form of two books entitled India Volume I and India Volume II. Each pair of views is mounted on stout card (now somewhat bowed) for insertion in a viewer. Each mount is stamped 'Underwood & Underwood, Publishers', with letterpress caption and serial number. A few of the mounts also have a detailed descriptive caption printed on the reverse, with instructions (presumably for the guidance of teachers) as to what general topic the photograph illustrates. One of these, for instance, reads: 'refer again to this view when considering Cities and City Life, People and Homes.' The photographs are generally of high quality and selected for their clarity and instructive value. Prints 37-8 appear to have been inserted from another series and are not connected with Burma.
