Green half-leather album (binding weak and spine piece detached) measuring 306x385mm. The majority of prints have contemporary hand-written captions.
The albums contains general topographical, social and architectural views in Allahabad, Lahore, Simla, Kashmir, Poona, Bombay and other locations. It was compiled by Edward Kay Robinson (1854-1928), the son of the Revd. Julian Robinson, an East India Company chaplain. Robinson was born in Naini Tal, was educated in England and returned to India as assistant editor of The Pioneer, Allahabad, in 1884. In 1887 he was appointed editor of the Civil and Military Gazette, Lahore, with Rudyard Kipling as his assistant. He returned to England in 1895 and in later years was best known as a nature writer and broadcaster.
