Scope & Content:

Red full-leather bound album (binding weak and spine-piece partially detached), title as above stamped in gold on front cover, measuring 320x440mm. Prints are mounted one to a page and captioned and dated in the negative. Each page, generally in the sky area of the print but sometimes on the page margin, caries the stamp of the Library of the Institution of Civil Engineers. The front endpaper also bears the library label of the Institution of Civil Engineers, with an inscription recording the presentation of the album to that body by Sir Francis Spring Rice on 7 May 1912. A handwritten note on the verso of the front free endpaper reads: 'Photographs accompanying O.C. 3964 'Remodelling and equipment of Madras Harbour'.'

The album comprises a set of high quality photographs taken by or for the Madras Port Trust, and recording the progress of the harbour extension works between 1906-11
