Sir Henry Yule portrait album. Photographer(s): Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
Modern red cloth-covered post-bound album in slipcase measuring 388x550mm, containing album leaves encapsulated in Secol sleeves. The prints have been separated from the original leaves and mounted on acid-free paper, while the old pages (on which are written identifying captions) have been encapsulated separately and inserted opposite the appropriate photographs.
The album consists of individual portraits and groups dating from 1857 (the date of death of the sitter in print 7) to 1862 (dated group at Madras at print 12). The majority of the prints appear to have been taken around 1861-2 at Lucknow, and feature military and civilian colleagues of Sir Henry Yule. They appear to have been taken by an amateur photographer, and may indeed be the work of Yule himself, although there is no corroborative evidence of photographic activity on his part.
Process = Albumen prints
Photographers = Unknown (possibly Sir Henry Yule?), ;
