Title:

Ian Meredith Collection: Album of views and portraits in Madras Presidency.

Scope & Content:

Red full-leather album, 377x345mm, containing 53 mounted prints with handwritten captions. There are are also 11 miscellaneous loose prints at the back of the album. The collection belonged to Ian Meredith, Inspector of Police and later Chief Presidency Magistrate in Madras, and the majority of photographs are views, portraits and ethnographical studies in South India, particularly in the Ganjam Hills. The loose prints include views of Lucknow by Molteno and a military group possibly by Burke.
