Collection of loose prints and negatives, formerly belonging to Miss Edith Winifred Ashton, who was Governess(?) to the children of the Resident in Kathmandu, Nepal, 1904-06. Photographs, presumably taken by her, include portraits of the Resident, Colonel Manners-Smith and family, household staff and Nepalese men and women. A selection of the original negatives have been printed by the donor and there is also a photocopy of a letter from Miss Ashton to her mother dated September 18th 1905 in which she describes attending durbars in Kathmandu. There are additional views of Nepal by the firm of Herzog & Higgins and some miscellaneous prints of Indian monuments.
