Thomas George Glover (Bengal Engineers) Collection: Album of portraits.

Scope & Content:

Black and green half-leather album, 336x290mm, containing mounted prints with handwritten captions. The word 'Portraits' is stamped in gold on the front cover and 'T.G. Glover RE, July 1863' is inscribed on the front free endpaper. The portraits represent family, friends and colleagues of Thomas Glover as well as leading personalities of the time. The portrait of the last Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah II (Print 37), was purchased separately by the library (ex-Photo 831) some time after the album was acquired, and it was only in 1995 that it was replaced in its original position when its origins were revealed. Glover's biographical details are given in the Photographers table.
