Title:

Clarke Collection: 'Chamba photographs. Presented by His Highness Sham Singh, Raja of Chamba'.

Scope & Content:

Maroon half-leather presentation album, 375x500mm, containing mounted prints with handwritten captions, and some additional loose prints, from the collection of Robert Clarke, Indian Civil Service. The title is stamped in gold on the front cover along with the Chamba State coat-of-arms. A note on the front free endpaper reads: 'R. Clarke Esquire, Commissioner & Superintendent, Lahore Division. Chamba, 30th July 1907'. A duplicate of this album, presented to Lord Curzon, is at Photo 430/30. The photographs are mainly topographical views in and around Chamba with some views and portraits taken during Curzon's viceregal visit of 18-27 September 1900. The loose prints at the back are miscellaneous views and portraits, including groups with Robert Clarke and the Lieutenant-Governor of the Punjab, Sir William Mackworth Young.
