Collection of loose, unmounted and (mostly) uncaptioned prints by the American illustrator and war correspondent, C. M. Sheldon (1866–1928). The collection is accompanied by typescripts of letters sent by Sheldon from the Press Camp at the Delhi Durbar and from Jaipur, in which he refers to his photography. At the time he was the staff artist for Black and White magazine and was sent to cover the Durbar. Prints 1–79 and 157: Snapshot views at the 1903 Delhi Durbar, including: views of processions in the amphitheatre; behind-the-scenes views of state elephants, camels and carriages, state troops and retainers; dancers and musicians; the 'giants' of Kashmir; views of European, Indian and foreign guests; veterans parade; press camp scenes and informal portraits of Lord and Lady Curzon and Kitchener. Prints 80–90: Views of Jaipur and Amber, including a European group (with C. M. Sheldon) visiting the Raj Mahal on elephants. Prints 91–106 Miscellaneous views of Indian monuments at Agra and Delhi including the Taj Mahal and Qutb Minar and a view of restoration work on a chhatri. Prints 107–152: Miscellaneous town views (Delhi?) including street scenes, bazaars, ascetics, street traders, a railway station, elephants and bullock carts, the Jami Masjid and Kashmir Gate at Delhi and monkeys (Jaipur?). Prints 153–156: Views of the temples and lake at Pushkar.
