Scope & Content:

Collection of loose prints, glass negatives and film negatives made from nitrate originals now destroyed. Also included is a booklet published in England by Holmes entitled Between the Indus and Ganges Rivers, and containing reproductions of a number of the photographs in this collection. The collection can be broken down under the following broad headings:

Prints 1-75 Miscellaneous views and snapshots, mainly in the North-West Frontier Province, 1880s-1940s. Various sizes

Prints 76-119 Large format views, mounted on card, of scenes in the North-West Frontier Province (particularly the Khyber Pass area), portrait studies of ethnic types, topographical and architectural views at Shimla, Srinagar, Varanasi, Kanpur, Agra, Delhi. 1910s-20s.

Prints 120-131 Album of views of Kashmir, with label reading, Presented to His Excellency Lord Reading on visiting Kashmir, October 1921. By R.B. Holmes of Peshawar and Srinagar.
