Loose unmounted prints with typescript descriptions pasted on the verso. Each description starts with the same opening lines: 'Last British battalion leaves India: The withdrawal of British troops from India was complete when the last British serving battalion, the 1st Somerset Light Infantry embarked from Bombay on the morning of Feb 28th on the "Empress of Australia" on their voyage home. Guards of honour of the Royal Indian Navy and crack contingents of the Indian Army saluted the departing Unit as it trooped the colours on Indian soil for the last time'. The photographs include the presentation of gifts, speeches, march pasts and the Empress of Australia.
