Collection of Sir Charles Beresford Duke. To be sorted in parts.
Biographical note. Sir Charles Beresford Duke (1905-1978) entered the Indian Civil Service in 1928 and was appointed to the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh in 1929. In 1934 he transferred to the Indian Political Service and served as Assistant Private Secretary to the Viceroy 1934-38. From 1940-41 he was Secretary to Government of the NWFP and Political Agent, Waziristan 1941-43. From 1943-47 he worked in the External Affairs Department of the Government of India, and on Independence transferred to the British Foreign Service, with posts in Pakistan, Iran and Egypt between 1947 and 1954. He was ambassador to Jordan 1954-56 and Morocco 1957-61.
