Collection of 13 loose prints relating to the career of Ernest Godfrey Pattle (1883-1963), Indian Civil Service, Burma. The photographs can be broken down into the following categories: (1-3) panoramic photographs of a military parade in Burma (probably Yenangyaung) at the end of the First World War, (4-7) panoramic photographs of the Yenangyaung Oil Fields, 1920s, (8) parade of volunteers at Yenangyaung, [?]1920s, (9-10) E.G. Pattle and others at Yenangyoung, 1920s, (11) formal portrait group of office staff of the Warden of the Burma Oilfields at Yenangyaung, c. 1933, (12) formal group of office staff with E.G. Pattle, when he was District Magistrate, Rangoon, 1930s, (13) snapshot group of Ernest and Beatrice Pattle with Denis Phelips, at The Grange, Salisbury, 1957.
Ernest George Pattle was educated at Merchant Taylor's School and St John's College, Oxford, before entering the Indian Civil Service and being posted to Burma in 1908 as an Assistant Commissioner at Shwebo. From 1922-23 he was in China studying the Chinese language and served as Senior Warden of the Burma Oilfields at Yenangyaung from 1927-33. From 1933-37 he was Commissioner of Magwe Division and was Financial Commissioner, Rangoon in 1938. He left Burma on leave in 1938 and did not return owing to ill-health. He received permission to retire in 1941.
