Collection of 75 lantern slides of Darjeeling, Sikkim and Tibet, collected by John Edward Ellam. The only clue as to the collector of this material is the typescript note pinned to the original wooden box in which the lantern slides were originally housed, which reads: These slides are the property of Captain J. E. Ellam, 44, Adelaide Road, Brockley, London, S.E.4. John Edward Ellam (1874-1930) served in the Manchester Regiment. He was a one-time Secretary of the Buddhist Society of Great Britain and writer on Buddhist topics, his works including The Message of Buddhism to the West (1908) and The Religion of Tibet. A Study of Lamaism (1927)
