Collection of 29 albumen prints loosely inserted in corner slits in a cloth bound album measuring 305 x 250 mm. According to the donor, the photographs were taken by his great grandfather George Lewis Clowser, who was employed as an engineer on the Great Indian Peninsular Railway from 1853. He appears to have returned to England in about 1863 or 1864. The photographs consist of views on the line of the Bhor Ghat Incline during construction, group of railway labour and a few general landscapes in the Western Ghats. The photographs are uncaptioned with the exception of prints 26 and 29, which have pencilled identifications on the reverse.
