- Scope & Content:
-
Collection of 43 loose lantern slides, the majority relating to the British occupation of Burma in 1885-86. Most are numbered, with letterpress caption labels pasted to the top edge of each slide. These lantern slides were made from photographs taken by Willoughby Wallace Hooper, Provost Marshall with the expeditionary force which occupied Upper Burma and unseated King Thibaw. Hooper's photographs were also published in a volume entitled Burmah. One hundred photographs, illustrating incidents connected with the British Expeditionary Force to that country..., for a copy of which, see Photo 312. The numbers on these lantern slides correspond to plate numbers in the published version. There are also a few additional lantern slides in this collection not present in the published work, principally plans.
