Black half leather album measuring 365 x 463 mm, containing 53 prints, with typescript caption labels pasted beneath. Fifty of the photographs are modern reprints from negatives of Calcutta scenes taken by Stanley Sperring (1915-2012) between 1946 and 1953, when he was art director in Calcutta of the advertising agency D. J. Keymer and Co. The remaining three prints comprise two portraits of Sperring (one taken in 1950, the other in 2012, shortly before his death) and one of his wife Gwen. The album was compiled by the donor Philip Roots, who arranged for the modern prints to be made, and includes a biographical appreciation of Sperring's work by Mr Roots.
