Collection of 100 stereoscopic views of Russian scenes, each mounted on stout card measuring 88 mm x 178 mm, and contained in a custom-made box in the form of a false three-volume book. Each card has a letterpress caption and copyright notice, the majority dated 1898, but some dating from 1897-1902. On the back of each card, the captions appear in English, French, German, Spanish, Swedish and Russian. Also included in the box is the accompanying publication by Mabel Sarah Emery, entitled Russia through the Stereoscope. A journey across the land of the Czar from Finland to the Black Sea (New York, London, Ottawa and Toronto: Underwood and Underwood, 1901). The book gives detailed descriptions of each photograph, together with a series of 10 maps showing the viewpoint and orientation of the images. The series contains views from Finland, St Petersburg, Moscow, Nizhniy Novgorod, Kiev, Odessa and Solinen.
