'Illustrations showing the smelting of gold balls in the mint'. This is the third part of a manuscript in three rolls depicting the activities in and around the gold and silver mines on the island of Sado, Japan.
Based on the equipment shown, the manuscript depicts the appearance of the mines between 1759 and 1789 although it was probably drawn in the early 19th century.

Format: An illustrated scroll made up of of six silk panels, backed with mica-embossed paper and glued together. A white silk edging has been added to the top and bottom of each panel.

Binding: A brown brocade cover with gold floral designs is attached at the beginning of the scroll
