Scope & Content:: Full red leather bound volume (British Museum binding) measuring 420 x 350 mm, containing 61 captioned albumen prints mounted on card one to a page (recto only). A contemporary handwritten label, cut into an ornamental shape and reading 'China. 61 sheets. Topographical views. (Photographies)', is pasted onto one of the preliminary leaves. The captions are written twice, in German (once in pencil and then copied in ink), at the bottom right-hand corner of the mounts. The photographs are of topographical and architectural views at Beijing, Swatow, Shanghai and Nanking. A number of the captions are clearly incorrect and have been amended in this listing.
