Scope & Content:: Red quarter leather and buckram volume (British Museum binding) measuring 392 x 320 mm, containing 46 prints (numbered 1-48, but lacking prints 3 and 14), mounted on green pre-printed card, with photographer’s credit and the general title, ‘Théâtre de la Guerre 1870-1871’ on each sheet, and with individual captions written by hand beneath each photograph. The collection comprises a series of topographical views of the city and of various buildings damaged by the German bombardment, prior to its surrender on 28 September 1870. See also Maps 184.o.2, which contains large format views by Braun, several of similar subjects, acquired by the British Museum on the same date.
