Scope & Content:

Red quarter leather and buckram volume (British Museum binding) measuring 332 x 306 mm, containing 75 prints (numbered 65-138, with an additional print at 135), mounted on green tinted card, with the general title, ‘Théâtre de la Guerre 1870-71’ printed at the head of each sheet and the photographer’s credit, reading ‘Ad. Braun à Dornach (Haut-Rhin),’ at the bottom. The individual images are numbered and captioned by hand, in French, beneath each print. The numbering appears to continue from Maps 10.bb.7 and the photographs are of a similar format and presentation to that collection. The photographs show views of locations associated with the Franco-Prussian War in the Franche-Comté area, at Héricourt, Bussural, Coisevaux, Couthenons, Luze, Chagey, Chenebier, Lure, Montbéliard, Presentevillers, Voujeaucourt, Sainte-Suzanne, Sainte-Marie, Dung, Arcey, Villersexel, Clerval, Baume-les-Dames, Pont-les-Moulins, Ornans, Pontarlier and Vesoul.
