Title:: Photographic views of Algiers, Suez and Cape Town. Photographer(s): Burger, Wilhelm
Scope & Content:: Red buckram volume (British Museum binding) measuring 400 x 327 mm, containing 9 prints mounted on card, with letterpress captions. This small series of views was presumably taken during the course of Burger's journey to the Far East as a member of the official Austro-Hungarian Mission to Japan, 1868-71 (see Maps 8.d.24). The views of Algiers and Cape Town were presumably taken on the outward voyage in late 1868, and the view of Suez on his return in 1871, by which time the Suez Canal had been opened.
