Scope & Content:

Green buckram album measuring 315 x 435 mm, titled as above in gilt on front cover and containing 32 albumen prints, with sheet of letterpress captions at end. The first print is a formal portrait of Ferdinand de Lesseps, the contractor for the canal. The remaining photographs show views at Port Said, Suez and other locations along the canal, including scenes of dredgers at work and photographs of the inauguration of the canal in November 1869. Several of the prints are signed in the negative by the photographer.
