Portfolio containing 78 albumen prints, on card mounts measuring 545 x 687 mm., each photograph mounted within a decorative printed border of martial design, listing the battles of the war inscribed on banners, among patriotic motifs and weaponry. The individual captions to the images (mostly dated) are also printed on the mounts, as is the publisher’s name, Friedrich Bruckmann (of Munich and Berlin). The collection records the progress of the war from the German side, with views taken at the sites of major battles, as well as an extensive series of views of the Palace of Versailles, which served as the German headquarters in the winter of 1870-71. The following locations are included: Weissenberg, Froschweiler, Saarbrücken, Gravelotte, Rezonville, Bezailles, Sedan, Metz, Ars-sur-Moselle, Fort issy, Saint-Cloud, Meudon, Nancy and Versailles.
