Our English lakes, mountains and waterfalls, as seen by William Wordworth. Photographically illustrated [1st edition]. Photographer(s): Ogle, Thomas
- Scope & Content:
-
Imprint: London: A. W. Bennett, 5, Bishopsgate Without. 1864.
Quarto, measuring 205 x 168 mm, blue cloth binding (modern); edges gilt; pp. xi, [3], 191; containing 13 stereo halves of landscape scenes associated with Wordsworth's poetry, mounted one to a page, with letterpress captions beneath each image. The prints for this edition were made by Sedgfield and Eliot, Norbiton. The contents include short poems and extracts, 'as refer expressly to the scenery of his beloved native country of Cumberland and Westmoreland; and has, as far as practicable, classified these extracts under the heads of the different Lakes or other objects of interest in each locality. By this arrangement it is believed that not only will the Reader be able, with the assistance of the Photographic Illustrations, which have been taken by Mr. T. Ogle, specially for this work, to appreciate the more fully Wordsworth's wonderfully true descriptions of the beauties of Nature; but the Tourist will have the additional pleasure of identifying with his own favourite spot the poet's verses which refer especially to it.'For other editions, see shelfmarks RB.23.a.23292 (3rd edition, 1868), 11651.e.8 (4th edition, 1870).
