Large half leather folio volume, red buckram boards (British Museum binding), with coat of arms in gilt on front and back boards, measuring 560 x 485 mm and containing 53 albumen prints (numbered 1-34), mounted on thick card,with a preliminary leaf of introduction and captions. The introductory note states that 'this publication of photographs from the Bronze Doors of the Baptistery at Florence, has grown out of the acquisition, by the Yale School of Fine Arts, of casts from the original work, including the whole design as it stands in position at the eastern entrance of San Giovanni. In offering this work to the public in its present form, the aim has been, not only to exhibit these designs in the extraordinary beauty of their detail, but it is hoped that it may serve to illustrate, in a measure, the growth of the Italian Renaissance ... It is also hoped that this may be the beginning of a series of similar publications to be issued annually, by the Yale School of Fine Arts, as a means of promoting its objects by directing attention to the higher examples of artistic expression.'
