Part 2 only. Small folio, measuring 363 x 270 mm, rebound (1992) in red buckram, with original covers bound in, containing 4 prints, mounted on card, with a page of letterpress facing each image. A letterpress label is also affixed to the back of each mount, supplying title and photographer. According to Helmut Gernsheim, 'Incunabula of British photographic literature' (Scolar Press, London and Berkeley, 1984), this work was published in five parts from January 1857, each issue containing four prints (see item 73). The British Library holds only part 2. The complete collection was later issued in book form under the title 'The sunbeam, a book of photographs from nature' (London, Chapman and Hall, 1859): see Gernsheim, item 109.'
