Our celebrities. A portrait gallery. Portraits by Walery, Photographer to the Queen. Edited by Percy Notcutt. Photographer(s): Waléry, Stanislaus Julian
- Scope & Content:
-
Imprint: London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington, Limited, St. Dunstan's House, Fetter Lane, Fleet Street, E. C. 1891, 1892.
No. 37, July 1891 - No. 49. Issues are listed by number and date up to No. 42, December 1891. Then January 1892 [no. 43], then No. 44, Vol. IV, part II. The wrapper for the January 1892 issue contains an advertisement for the Woodbury-gravure process and states that 'the portraits in this publication are examples of the process.' Advertisement also appears in nos. 44 and 45, and for these issues a slightly different process does appear to be in use, different surface and no offsetting onto facing page (although paper type is also different and maybe less absorbent?). In following issue reverts to older process - Investigate.
