Folio, quarter leather and red cloth binding, with royal coat of arms stamped in gilt on upper and lower boards (British Museum binding), measuring 552 x 445 mm, with original blue cloth and gilt binding laid down on front pastedown. The work consists of a 5pp. introductory sketch of the history of Windsor Castle, followed by 30 coloured prints of interior and exterior views, mounted one to a page, with accompanying letterpress descriptions. The printing process employed in the prodtion of the views has not been identified with certainty.See also the second edition (shelfmark 1780.c.22), published c. 1875, containing only 22 images reproduced in a monochrome photo-mechanical process (collotype?) and omitting most of the close views of paintings in the palace apartments that appear here.
