The lithographed title page, showing scenes from the war, signed 'A. R. Ward' (i.e. Alfred Rudolph Waud), is followed by a contents page listing the titles of the photographs.The photographs mounted on light card within a tinted border, with letterpress caption, photographer's credit, printer's credit (Alexander Gardner) and statement asserting Alexander Gardner's copyright printed beneath.
