Folio, half-leather binding with purple buckram boards, measuring 480 x 362 mm, with royal coat of arms and title as follows stamped in gilt on front board: 'Ordnance Survey of the Peninsula of Sinai. Part III. Photographs Vol. III. 1869.' With label pasted to front fixed endpaper reading: 'Presented to The British Museum by Authority of the Right Honble. the First Commissioner of H. M. Works &c.' The volume consists of printed titlepage (with an original print laid down beneath the title), 1 p. listing the titles of the photographs and 33 prints laid down one to a page (recto only), with title beneath each image and photographer's credit, reading 'J. McDonald, Color Sergt. R.E. Photo.' beneath the bottom left corner of each print. This volume of the work consists primarily of views of stele and rock-cut inscriptions from Wadi Igna (prints 2-5), Sarabit el Khadim (prints 6-18), Wadi Mukattab (prints 19-26), Wadi Ajeleh (prints 27-29) and Wadi Aleyat (prints 30-33). A few prints are also duplicated in vol. 2 of this collection. See vol. 1 for a general account of the collection.
