Full leather oblong quarto volume, with decorative work and title 'Rhein-Album von Matthias Ziegler' stamped in gilt on upper board, measuring 235 x 320 mm and containing 30 albumen print topographical and architectural views of scenery on the Rhein. The prints are pasted onto guard-mounted card leaves, within lithographed decorative borders, printed caption beneath each image and photographer's credit reading 'Ziegler's Kaiser-Wilhelm Rhein-Album.' Two pages of letterpress descriptive text accompany each image and the work is prefaced by a dedication to the German Emperor, celebrating the creation of the German Empire after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71.
